Thanksgiving 2008 -- Mumbai attacks

After 911, there were some who sought to look at antecedents that predisposed Islamic fundamentalists to commit the horror. Those fundamentalists of course were the radical tip of the iceberg that coalesced after decades of Western colonial/capitalist exploitation of the so-called third world.

It is legend that those who sought to look to the underlying contributing causes of the radical Islamic movement and its results, were quickly buried under the onslaught of Cheneynist blood lust, accusations of being unpatriotic, and the equivalent of threats of bodily harm for suggesting that an intelligent, wide view of an emerging theme in post cold war realities be examined, well, with intelligence. Additionally, the country suffered the enactment and imposition of a variety of legislative initiatives, agreed to with greater or lesser enthusiasm by both sides of the asile, that codified this repressive and rigidfied fortress mentality.

We know the results. Eight years of Bush/Cheney erosion of American civil liberties, and eight more years of polarizing the world in "us/them" terms. Disaster.

Will the Mumbai attacks indicate any expansion of intelligence, through all the usual arbiters of consensus 'intelligence' with regard to interpreting events, or reinforce the same ignorance and escalation of the "problem" as we saw in 911.

Here's a video of Deepak Chopra articulating the case in some part.
